It took a year, but this watch is back from a spa treatment with VC in Geneva and it is looking and working great. Absence, for once in my case, has made the heart grow fonder. Dare I say it: this is a keeper! Bill...

I had Vacheron Constantin create a Certificate of Authenticity, and they dated the year of production to 1950. Bill

I am sure you have posted them previously, but could you post a before picture followed by an after picture so we can see the changes and the work done to restore your watch to its fantastic condition? Congratulations on getting this beauty back! Stewart

I will prepare a post with some before and after photos, but I'm not sure how good my before photos are in revealing how good a job they did on the cosmetics compared with the afters. I am most pleased about having a crystal that has a much better profile...

The dial is based on another vintage watch I have which is similar to yours although the lugs are different. Joseph

it was in Geneva, especially the movement, because I am not taking off the case back on this one while the service warranty is in effect. Oh, well.... Bill

Your beautiful example just whets my appetite to delve deeper into vintage V&C. The lugs and dial on yours are simply exquisite, Bill. I chuckled a little when you suggested that this might be a keeper. I am not going to hold my breath, but I do hope ... 

...I don't recall if I showed it in NY at our lunch last year as I was bringing it down for service. The service bill on vintage VC's can be hefty, so I went in to this with the expectation of a long term relationship. :-) Bill

What makes it a little unusual is the 38 mm diameter, which was quite a bit larger than typical for the era. Bill

Many vintage VC from the late 40's and early 50's have such distinctive lugs. I find them to be analogous to the tail fins on 1950's American automobiles. Bill

I hadn't noticed that on the return of the watch. Here is one of my pre-service photos which shows the orientation as you would prefer it. I will write to VC about this. Bill ...
