had a watch on his wrist which I have never seen before. When he closed his eyes for a nap I took my ipad mini and tried to shoot the watch. The lugs and the crown look mid 90s to me. The tourbillon bridge and the indications on the left and right side I ...  

I've seen many pictures with this design and they seem to be all replicas... :( Were you well escorted, watchly speaking, during your flight ?

but I know there have been some "odd" designs in the 90s and I don´t know them all. The elderly gentleman was well dressed - "English banker style". Does it mean anything? No, but at least you have some doubts before burning ... Thanks, Mark. Oliver

Yes likely... The lugs look like VC Malte lugs but are straight. The real Malte lugs have a slight curvature to them. I don't believe VC ever made a watch that looked like that with Malte lugs. The lay-out looks JLC, but there is a Maltese cross and the w... 

Searching for "replica vacheron" in Google image search yields several variations and hybrids with the dial layout, crown, circular cutout bridge shape, etc...

The "tourbillon" looks very fake. Common for fakes to have a fake tourbillon window on the dial with just a regular balance wheel/escapement Cheers Robin

I was on an early morning flight and I noticed the gentleman sitting next to me had a watch with a crown that had VC's Maltese Cross on it. I felt like talking to this guy, but he went to sleep very quickly and I couldn't get a view of the watch dial. Aft... 

I had a similar long ago. I struck up a conversation with the owner who quickly revealed the watch to be a replica. It can be difficult to get a surreptitious view in the wild which will allow for adequate identification. Your "spy camera" shot is resour...
