New VC owner needs help finding vintage 15mm yellow gold buckle

Oct 09, 2010,17:08 PM

I recently purchased a ref 4667 at auction and need to replace the strap and I'd also like to find a vintage yellow gold buckle. I believe the strap/buckle size is 15mm. Can any experienced collectors direct me on how to find a vintage buckle? Am I better off trying to purchase a new replacement buckle directly from VC?

Thanks!

You will be joining many of us on the quest for a correct vintage buckle...they are rare! I'm inclined to think yours might be 14mm as that was the typical buckle size with your 32mm case.

I'll echo that sentiment!!

It is a rare find to get an authentic vintage buckle to go with a watch such as your (Congratulations on you watch!). I don't have any contacts that can help on that front. Most collectors either settle for a generic gold buckle or get a contemporary Vach...

It's probably a 14mm buckle.

They are offered from time to time on eBay. During that period Vacheron, Audemars and Patek used identical buckles (except for the brand stamp on the back), so (1) if you can see an Audemars or a Patek one you will know the shape for which you are looking...
