Extra pictures of another marvel: The Mercator Enamel Cloisonné for Germany.

Oct 14, 2011,09:29 AM

Well, to tell you all, I'm working on a post about the Mercator Enamel Cloisonné.

It is a quite large project post, which requires a bit of time, but I'm progressing slowly.

In the meantime, here are, for your pleasure ( mine was huge, by the way ), the Mercator ( Germany ) made in 10 pieces only.

And a gratuitous picture of the movement, the Cal 1120:

I don't know for you, but for me, this Mercator Enamel Cloissné is one of the highest watch in my wish list....

Best, and Enjoy!

the search for it has been vain.

Well, I recently found two, but can't go on them, sadly.

It is like Parking places... you may look for one for a long time, and once you found it, there are many other popping out. Good luck, my friend. I wish for you and me the best in this hunt! Nicolas.

Ah, VC at its best

The Mercators, any of them, are grail-worthy. Thank you for posting these images, which are pure pleasure/torture. I am not sure if I will ever be in a position or fortunate enough to get one -- and as Bill reminds me, they are perhaps small for my taste ...

Well, it doesn't look that small on the wrist, Respo.

Elegance has no size. And God knows how elegant is the Mercator. I know I will get one, but I don't know when. Best, Respo. Nicolas.

A true classic. The enamel is sublime, the theme

carried out with the hands and the movement of course. It is a grail watch and I am also hunting for mine. Good luck and see you online! Best to all, Tim

Thanks, Tim. It is simple.

since the very first day I saw a Mercator with the enamel cloisonné dial, 10 years ago, I could never forget it, and I made a promise to myself to get one... I have to keep my word! Best, my friend. Nicolas.

A rare quality of this German Mercator...

is the use of the free sprung Gyromax balance, which most Mercator models do not possess. Great photos, Nicolas, and I look forward to your fuller article. Bill

I assume the position of the hands' axis (?) is Hamburg,

right? And what a work of art! I would love to see those retrogade hands

You have to ask Oliver for that. ;)

 By: amanico : October 14th, 2011-23:15
Yes, looking at these retrograde hands working is another great show to admire on this watch, definitely. Best, Marcelo. Nicolas. This message has been edited by amanico on 2011-10-14 23:16:26

Is that in Platinum mon ami?

A piece that strikes at my heart, for it gives the map of my most beloved country in the world! Too bad it is an auto. But did you know that the current trend for platinum wedding bands were started by the Germans? Thanks for this! STephen

36mm + Auto= Not for you, Stephen. [nt]

I am indeed a VC fan mon ami.......

But unfortunately my knowledge of the pieces from this great manufacture, especially those obscure ones from the past, is far far lower than my passion for the brand. Merci beaucoup et a beintot! Stephen

Ooh, i love this formula!

 By: BluNotte : October 17th, 2011-09:11
Kinda like a lange, no? So only precious metals! Merci! Stephen

For the Mercator, yes. Now, they have some sports watches which also come in SS;

 By: amanico : October 17th, 2011-09:24
Which makes a big difference with Lange. Best, Nicolas

Your light tent works very well ...

Of the way I still have ahead on me to try to reach perfection, my friend. Best, Nicolas.

Wunderschön

Nice round shape, beautiful lugs , amazing dial and hands. The caliber is a classical but beautiful automatic. This watch would have been perfect if Bavaria wasn't way too small ! Hope Oliver will agree ;-) Thanks for sharing Nicolas FranZois

hmmmm...

If I do that I need another terabyte Hard disk. In this style I wolud put first the Saltarello in Pink Gold... or The "Grands Explorateurs"... I prefer not to have the choice, and how lucky, I do not cheers Francois

A Vintage Chronometre Royal, a Les Historiques Chrono, a Perpetual Calendar Skeleton, and ... The Mercator, in this configuration... Damn list! But one day, with a bit of luck, I will open it. Best, Nicolas.
