Vacheron Constantin Evening in Stockholm

Apr 18, 2014,04:17 AM

Here in Sweden we are not spoiled with watch events and especially not one held by some of the bigger names in the industry.

The other evening was one of these rare occasions, Vacheron Constantin together with Nymans Ur held an event here in Stockholm.

The evening offered mingle, drinks, canapés and of course watches…

One of the watches that VC brought was the Patrimony Traditionnelle Caliber 2755.

Manual Minute Repeater Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon. A very interesting watch both technically and in appearance. Beautiful, but in the same time it is not a watch you fall in love with at first glance (at least not for me). But once you start to look more closely it draws you in and you may lose yourself…

What disturbed me and why it took a while for me to warm up to this watch is the of center hands/dial position. At first glance it looks “unnatural” in my eyes… But after the first impression you start to think why… And then it hits you, look at the size of the Tourbillon case! That baby needs space! smile

So, once you are over the “chock” of the off centered dial and start to examine the dial in detail you see all the beautiful trades of Vacheron. The slivered opalin dial, the discrete leap year indicator window, the Maltese Cross shaped Tourbillon…

The “hidden” second hand on top of the Tourbillon is a nice touch.

And the movement? Caliber 2755, 58 hours power reserve. Superb finish awarded with the  Geneva Seal, unlike some other brands, VC move more and more towards that all their movements should have this symbol of “best in class”…

Here we can also see the hammers of the MR and the power reserve indicator.

One thing that makes this watch very appealing, IMO is the size: 44 mm in diameter and “only” 13.54 mm thick. That is the size of a normal sports watch these days… In other words a Grand Complicated that you actually would be able to wear as an everyday watch!

And on the wrist…

smile

Yes, I could live with an “everyday” watch like this…!

wink

Vacheron brought several Tourbillons for this evening, but next watch I had a closer look at was the Overseas Chronograph.

You all know my weakness for blue dials… And this one is no exception.

When you think about sports watches, Vacheron may not be the first brand that comes to mind…

And even if the Overseas is a very elegant watch, it is a sports watch.

Solid case, screw down crown and pushers, antimagnetic, this one is built to be able to take a beating!

But in the same time it is a very elegant watch, well-made details, big date function…

As always the Maltese Cross is integrated as a part of the design, both in the bezel and the bracelet.

The ship on the back…

On the wrist, yup, I could see myself wearing this on a ship or the beach!

smile

There were several more watches; I will come back with more.

Before I end this report I would like to show you two more things…

The Vacheron corner at Nymans Ur is a very unique “corner”. VC corners exist at AD’s all over the world, but the one at Nymans Ur is the only corner in the world that is round!

smile

With a push on a button the round walls comes out… You are able to close them all the way so you will have a private room in the middle of the store!

How cool is that?!

smile

The second thing I wanted to show you is this one…

I guess introduction is not necessary – The Saltarello!

First time I saw this watch in real, was back in 2005, since then this is one of my dream Vacheron’s!

Jumping hour, retrograde minutes…

Automatic movement, superb finish…

On the wrist it is a dream…

smile

A big thank you to Olof and the team at Nymans Ur and Vincent and the team from Vacheron Constantin for a great evening!

Best

Thank you for sharing this with us. You were able to see some very wonderful VCs from the Overseas to the grand complication cal. 2755 -- that is quite a range a and a lot to take in. The blue Overseas looks great on your wrist (well, so does the 2755!). ...

It is the ...

Thanks for sharing, it looks like a great event. The Overseas Chrono will be my next VC, for the reasons you mention. The Saltarello is amazing!

If ever I were to spend three quarters of a million USD on a watch....

Part 2: Patrimony

By: blomman Mr Blue : April 18th, 2014-11:56
Another Perpetual Calendar I got to see was the Patrimony Contemporaine Perpetual Calendar. A very classic looking pink gold watch, perfect size: 41 mm in diameter and only 8.96 mm high. That’s very thin for a Perpetual Calendar with Moon phase! The leap ...

Toledo 1951. You all know my fabless for rectangular watches, right? But, I must say that this 1951 version is not my favorite version of the Toledo. I find this one a bit anonymous… Not sure if it’s because of the other watches I have seen here or if bec...

The strap on the Saltarello is a killer

 By: 4Js : April 18th, 2014-17:23
It is so rare to see the YG. Do you know if the strap is a VC strap? It is so different than the standard brown or black! The 2755 looks fab on you. I own the OS blue. It is a great blue watch. I was thinking of adding the rubber strap for it this summer ...

Joe, I think the strap is original VC.

I am not 100% - will ask next time I meet the owner. If you look at the photos, you see that the inside also is alligator, which you also find on some of VC's current watches. Which one will be my first VC...? Well, for a long time I have been eyeing the ...

Much Watch events in Sweden. Could you tell us why? Another thing, could you listen to the Minute Repeater? Aaah, the Saltarello! Not my fav VC from that era, but a very interesting Watch, for sure! Best, Blomman. Nicolas

Saltarello, not a favorite?

Was "looked" so I could not hear the sound... :( Why not many watch events in Sweden? Well, to start with Sweden is a very "underdeveloped" country when it comes to watches. People are not that into watches as much as in some other European countries. Mos...

Thanks for sharing your experience. Some of those watches are exquisite. I'm glad VC brought along some interesting vintage pieces as well as the newer ones. Looks like a wonderful evening. Best, Joseph

It was a wonderful evening! :)
