the Cotes de Geneve from the Barrel Bridge to the Train Bridge do not have a nice continuity. It may be an optical illusion from the picture though;) Thank you for the picture Bill, very nice movement architecture. Cheers Francois from Down Under

I started with a 453, and I went on with 1008 :) The vintage pocket watch architecture (coming from Verger Frères?) was retained, the overall finish is fantastic. Like Dan this is my Gem :) (I don't know if a grail can be reached but if yesm that is mine ...

That is a great photo...

...of a caliber I really, really, really want to add to my collection. The most vintage I have gone thus far is 1972...but for the cal. 1007BS or 1008BS I will have to dive deeper...and willingly, I might add. Best, respo

THanks Robert, 50s are a wonderful time to dig in :)

I wish you one best François

And here is my 1008 BS photo...

This is one of VC's best of all time: Bill ...

Yup, that's the one!

 By: respo : April 24th, 2014-06:09
Nice pic, Bill. Thank you for posting that. I wonder if the cal. 1008BS or 1007BS ever were placed in watches as large as 38mm. Most of the ones I have seen appear to be around 35mm, which makes sense given the time period. Just curious... ;-) Best, respo...

AFAIK no Robert

First Chronometer with the cylindrical shape and lugs is around 35mm. Same for integrated bracelet refs. The second with the "maltese cross" lugs is 34 or 36mm depending ont the ref and case (snap on case back or screw down basically) The last one the 634...

Francois, thank you for this information

This is very useful for me. I have seen what you mean about the oversize pieces with the beautiful dials for which AlexG has a penchant through some photos he has posted. They are are stunning. I don't think I realized that they were not to be found at th...

This one is 37mm, not counting the inset crown:

You can pretty much tell by considering the case perimeter and spacer shown in this picture: Here is the watch: ...

This is a reference with which I am unfamiliar

 By: respo : May 7th, 2014-15:23
Thanks, Steve. I wish we knew the reference number for your CR. Your example, which I am drooling over, seems to have been produced later than the references of the 50s with the distinctive lugs. Those earlier references all seem to be within the 34-35mm ...

If these are any help,

as I am sure pretty much all are aware, it seems that V&C produced an impressively large number of distinct cases/dials/lugs...variations way out of proportion to their modest overall production, especially during those lean decades of the 20th centur...

That is a good succinct way to put it.

"V&C produced an impressively large number of distinct cases/dials/lugs...variations way out of proportion to their modest overall production." Yours is an interesting observation of which I suspect many are NOT aware. Thanks for posting the extra pho...

So there are more sizes for the "last version" of the handwinding CR I believe. It's such a mess around the CR references and version. Yours is really special, never seen another one like yours. On other photo of a similar version (from Berny) there is sl...

Agreed, defintely one of the greatest three hand movement

Finish is at its best, adjustment are all there and "chronomètre" certificate moreover. I do not see another matching caliber in my very biased opinon. :D cheers François

Thanks Joseph !
