VACHERON CONSTANTIN EXPANDS PARTNERSHIP WITH NEW YORK CITY BALLET THROUGH SPONSORSHIP OF DOCUMENTARY BALLET 422
AT TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL

An Accompanying Short Film, Mastery of Movement, by Vacheron Constantin and New York City Ballet, Celebrates the Parallels Between Ballet and Watchmaking

Vacheron Constantin, the world’s oldest watchmaker in continuous production, announces its sponsorship of New York City Ballet documentary Ballet 422, which premiered on the evening of April 19th at the Tribeca Film Festival. The sponsorship continues the on-going partnership between Vacheron Constantin and New York City Ballet, which began last year.

A celebration of the premiere was hosted by Vacheron Constantin at the Gramercy Park Hotel. Notable among the guests were choreographer Justin Peck, director Jody Lee Lipes, actors Billy Morrissette, and Joey Slotnik, and NYCB principal dancers Sterling Hylton, Tiler Peck, and Amar Ramasar.
Ballet 422 follows choreographer Justin Peck as he creates the 422nd ballet for the Company called Paz de la Jolla. From the first day in the studio to the world premiere performance, the film conveys the creative collaboration between the choreographer and the dancers, costume designers, seamstresses, the conductor and the musicians, all of whom play a vital role in the production. Ballet 422 is an unembellished vérité portrait of a process that has never before been documented at New York City Ballet in its entirety. The film is directed by Jody Lee Lipes. Link to the video:

In conjunction with the sponsorship of Ballet 422, Vacheron Constantin and New York City Ballet have produced a short film titled Mastery of Movement: Vacheron Constantin and New York City Ballet. In Mastery of Movement, NYCB Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins visits the Vacheron Constantin workshops and explores the parallels between watchmaking and choreography. Mastery of Movement unveils the worlds of watchmaking and ballet from behind the scenes, highlighting the dedication to precision and beauty that these time-honored arts share. The film combines an insider’s look at the Vacheron Constantin manufacture interspersed with excerpts of Ballet 422.

Vacheron Constantin began its partnership with the New York City Ballet in 2013 as the leading corporate sponsor of NYCB’s annual Spring Gala. The sponsorship of New York City Ballet underlines Vacheron Constantin’s consistent and enthusiastic support of fine arts and expanding commitment to the New York City community. Widely acknowledged for its enduring contributions to dance, NYCB is committed to promoting creative excellence and nurturing a new generation of dancers and choreographers. Similarly, Vacheron Constantin is deeply committed to the development and training of its highly-skilled watchmakers and craftsmen. The transmission of skill and knowledge from master to apprentice over generations, and the constant pursuit of excellence, are values shared by New York City Ballet and Vacheron Constantin.

Makes sense on so many levels. The least of which is the fact they have those three ballet watches of ballet dancers painted on the dials. Thank you Vacheron Constantin for your patronage of the arts.
