A current VC model vs an older model

I visited the VC boutique in Singapore at the Marina Bay Sands recently and I saw that they have the new reference 85290 in rose gold already - I recall seeing this watch first in Watches and Wonders 2014 in Hong Kong. There is the limited EP version and a rose gold version.

See pic below for this reference in rose gold (which I recall would be for the china market first but it seems it's available for sale in Singapore already - maybe I remembered wrongly or the "exclusivity" to the China market is for a very limited period only)

Interestingly, the boutique also has the much older reference 83060 in rose gold, which is a discontinued model. See below.

Interestingly, without considering movement design and finishing (the older 83060 has a closed caseback) and purely based on the dial and case design, I found myself drawn to the older reference! There is something very charming about the older VCs... The lug design, the case, the hands and the guilloche dial!

I would have assumed I prefer the newer model as I normally like modern over vintage but somehow for VC, their traditional design elements are just.... Wow!
I saw that in their new Harmony collection too - very vintage inspired looks. There is something about Vacheron Constantin and the old world charm that is just irresistible to me. smile

Fellow VC PuristS friends, what are your thoughts on this?

Cheers
Robin

Boutique a few months ago. In fact I saw both the PT CEP and the PG version (pictured here). The PT version is a lot nicer. I do not like the subdials on the PG version. And I also feel the PG version is a bit overpriced. Yes, I agree that sometimes the o...

That retired Malte Power Reserve-Date model...

never got a lot of attention here, even when it was in production. That said, it is a nice looking watch. A lot of people like that case design with the stepped lugs. My favorite version of the day-date-power reserve complication remains the Jubile 1755. ...

I do not have a real preference between these two

I will throw in my two cents worth, and that is about all my opinion is worth, if that. Neither of these is top of mind for me. There are many other models I prefer. I think for VC, this display of the day and date is a tad dull when I think of the retrog...

Have to agree upon vintage models

you are right some vintage models have a charm that modern ones lost it. For example, the use of precious stones in 1960`s and 1970`s are missed in modern watches.
