Can't decide between Vacheron overseas 42042 & 49140? Any advise?

Hello Guys

I am trying do some research before buying my first vacheron, I basically narrowed it down to two models VCO 42042 (37mm) & 49140(40mm).

I always thought the 37mm looked too small( although never got to try one in my wrist) but I am surprised (looking at the pictures of the two side by side posted recently by a member here)the 42042 does not look that small compared to the 49140 .I have a 6.8 - 7 inch wrist size and 38mm watches look perfect on my wrist but i think a chronograph like 49140 if its 41mm(with crown) might look a bit big.

I am searching for a good overseas 42042 chronometre to buy but very confused as there are different sizes & calibres.

I have checked ebay and chrono24 for 42042 ,Could anyone advise best place to buy authentic vacheron chronometre 42042 from and how to check authencity , & which is the best calibre VC in the 42042.

Sorry for all these questions any feedback would be appreciated, just a bit worried as this is my first time buying pre owned watches from the internet, and was reading some where that  there quite a few replicas of overseas 42042 sold throughout the web.

you will have to be careful about how and who you purchase from. And as both references are retired, you will want to assume that the watch will need service in the very near term unless the owner has been good about that and has records of having it serv...

I have a 6.5 inch wrist and both Ref. 42042 and Ref. 49140. Like you, I also like these 1st Generation OS watches because they are smaller than their future generations. Did you know the the Overseas collection are Tonneau shapped watches? I didn't realiz...

The first Gen. OS watches do not have interchangeable straps & bracelets

That is a really nice feature of the OS, starting with the 2nd generation. The bracelet on the Gen. 1 watches is also not as nice as the newer bracelets with the Maltese cross theme. BR, Dan

I usually am not drawn to the OS, but there are a couple exceptions, and your model is one of them! Arabics on blue are fantastic!

Our moderator, Bill, is the one that uncovered this information years after he initially bought his Overseas. I started searching for this one after learning about this, and Bill helped me track one down! (like many others here, we are grateful to Bill fo...

I was not aware of that practice, but I think it's great.

I love when businesses with an outstanding product march to their own drummer. And when they do it with discretion, that's even more outstanding. The whole philosophy of "don't you go the them, let them come to you". By the way, this forum is a great plac...

An official clarification about my statement

 By: dshao1 : July 12th, 2014-17:36
I went back and looked at my old VC catalogs, which has a letter stating the "24 models of any one design". That is from 1952, and I do not have hard evidence to show when this practice ended. Therefore I cannot say beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this p...
