When a brand such as Vacheron Constantin has over a quarter millennium of history behind it, the weight of the past can be a burden. How does a watchmaker honor its heritage while creating watches for the present? Philosophically there are traits that define Vacheron Constantin: a sophisticated sense of design combined with the pursuit of technical excellence, but how do such abstract principles turn into actual watches? One idea that Vacheron Constantin pursues involves paying homage to its past. In... more

I don’t know about you, but I have not exactly been a buy-and-hold kind of collector. In a post from a couple of years ago I asked about how long people hold on to their watches, and there was a wonderful mix of experiences shared: vacheron.watchprosite.com For the most part, five years tends to be the max period that I hold a watch, but in the case of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronometer, I have almost doubled that mark and intend to keep on accumulating... more

Vacheron Constantin introduced the Overseas Dual Time (reference 47450) in 2005 along with the redesigned Overseas (reference 47040) and Overseas Chronograph (reference 47150). Initial production of the Overseas Dual Time included stainless steel models with silver or black textured dials, a yellow gold model with a silver textured dial, and a flamboyant limited edition (250 pieces) rose gold model with a chocolate brown dial. All photos above by Alberto Schileo The yellow gold and rose gold ... more

A couple of weeks ago I posted a photo of a pair of Vacheron Constantin Overseas watches sitting side-by-side: I had done so in the context of reviewing the thousands of photos on my hard drive, and in the process I noticed just how few photos I had taken where more than one watch was the object of composition. Conspicuous by their rarity, I thought it might be interesting to tell the stories behind those few photos. As I mentioned in my original post, the photo above was meant to show the ... more

Summer brings a more relaxed feel to life. School is out of session, the weather is warm, and dress is more casual. The watches we wear should follow the spirit of the season. Larger cases, stainless steel heads, and either stainless steel bracelets or rubber straps all point this more casual feeling. As regards Vacheron Constantin, this means it is time to pull out the Overseas! Vacheron Constantin originally launched the Overseas line in 1994 with the Overseas Chronometer, and expanded it a few yea... more

One of the main themes this year from the brand was the extension of the Patrimony line with new metals and dials. Previously one could have (and still can have) a Patrimony Contemporaine (Ref 81180) in platinum with an opaline silver dial. My complaint about this is that it looks identical to the white gold model, and so does not justify the premium one must pay for platinum. Now Vacheron Constantin offers a beautiful slate grey dial which will be exclusive to the platinum watches in the Patrimony line. &n... more

Vacheron Constantin presented a very strong range of watches this year, focusing on their core values of traditional excellence in watchmaking and design. Their 2010 releases explore various themes: artisanship in dial-making, the history and art of ultra-thin timepieces, and expertise in ultra-complicated movements - via a formidable new duo of Grandes Complications. The return of the ultra-thin watch was a notable theme for SIHH this year, thanks to the efforts of Vacheron, Piaget, Dunhill, and even (surpr... more

PuristSPro's 2010 SIHH Live Reporting by Z3 Vacheron Constantin 2010 Novelties - My Intense Love for Maki-e. Two themes that are quite memorable for me this year at Vacheron - ultra thin and Maki-e. The ultra thin (1955) is a piece with strong Vacheron DNA and conjures up images of its dress watches made in the mid 20th century. The stunning Maki-e collection continues to assert Vacheron's role as a champion preserver of traditional crafts and heritage, and its namesake as "Metiers... more

Vacheron surprised us a lot last year with the presentation of the caliber 4400, the Americaine 1921, the new Patrimony collection including the beautiful handwind Patrimony 38mm.This year, the SIHH for Vacheron is a confirmation of the quality of the novelties of the previous year.To sum up, in a few words, the description of the novelties, I would say: grey, maki-e, complications.Let's browse the novelties now !Thanks to Alexandre Ghotbi, I had the opportunity to shoot each and every watch... except a no... more
