Some things i like and some things i dont

I have to admit that I am also getting a bit sick of all the Omega limited editions that keep on getting released. But what I do like about this one is that it is a bit different. Not since the Snoopy has really been much difference is the limited editions in my opinion. To me they all seem to look very much the same. I like the large font, its different, I like the colours in there, the red and the blue, yes the pointer on the second hand is really a bit silly, serves no purpose and if its a real homage it should be with a bracelet and on a crown guard case. I also like that its 500 only. Most Omega Speedy limited editions now days are 2.000 upwards. So generally I like it overall, there is a difference on this one.

.... and here is a new Speedmaster limited edition

 By: VinnieD : September 5th, 2018-07:39
Just one month after the Ultraman, here is another Speedmaster limited... Sold out at Hodinkee... I quite like the use of - the thinner FOiS case, - the grey/blue hue of the main dial - the arabic numbers for a change But the non fonctional colours in the...

I also don't care for that odd subdial, but I am excited by the use of numerals.

Hopefully more models will come like that.

Wow. Absolutely hideous mashup

Compared to the beauteuous charm of RJB's Tuesday. The font's too large. Missed opp to use applied logo. Same mistake as the awful so called MK40 version from the late 90s with the seconds track tick length same as fractions makes for poor readability. Po...

hehe, "There's one born every minute" my Dad always says.

I can relate to Ben's story of his Grandpa etc, it's similar for me and I'm sure many others. But I find it a missed opportunity to do something really good. If you are going to do a limited Speedy it didn't need to be this 'Homer - ga' watch.

well summarized! [nt]

I have a serious case of . . . .

 By: M4 : September 5th, 2018-10:27
Speedmaster limited edition fatigue. M4

yeah the only one I want is a reissue of this

By: Velociphile - No longer in the building : September 5th, 2018-10:40
with applied logo though... and maybe long indexes adapted in but with a remanufactured 321 or NOS movement. Miranda's old one I miss my old 2998-6 Velociphile ...

"Thanks, but . . .

 By: Dr No : September 5th, 2018-11:06
. . . no thanks." ;-)

I guess I'm in the minority (tiny-ority) as I kinda like it

 By: reintitan : September 5th, 2018-11:20
I understand why most folks would be put off by it: the colors, the non-Lemania 5100 elements (airplane hand) without the functionality (split colored subdial w/out 24-hour hand), etc But for me, as my favorite watch is the Rolex Pepsi GMT-Master I/II wit...

I think it’s pretty nice too.

 By: chocomallo : September 5th, 2018-11:31
Just shows how good the original is. But in this version it looks a bit like a Chopard Mille Miglia to me. And I like the Chopard better in this instance.

I have to admit...

 By: reintitan : September 5th, 2018-17:27
the more I look at it, the more I'm liking it! Don't take my Purists card away

I actually ordered one

of the originals back in the day. When it came in to the AD I rejected it for the simple reason you could not read the chrono track.

Very nice, I like it.

SIze is great. Vte

I dunno...

 By: aston.db4 : September 5th, 2018-11:41
Not sure about everyone else, but I have Omega fatigue with all the unlimited LEs they keep bring out. The blogger (Hodinkee) collaboration IMHO devalues Omega's luxury image and cheapens their brand. This product will give them short-term marketing hype,...

Yikes

 By: JohnFM : September 5th, 2018-13:50
Unattractive to my eye. No appeal whatsoever. Surprised, as I otherwise enjoy Hodinkee.

I have less than zero interest buying any HODINKEE branded piece.

 By: descartes1 : September 5th, 2018-16:58
In fact, it sort of sours me on the brands that do it, like Vacheron. HODINKEE is not Tiffany’s for godssake.

LOL! Love that analogy.

 By: reintitan : September 5th, 2018-17:26
Tiffany's or Cartier or Serpico y Laino...

+++1! [nt]

 By: amanico : September 6th, 2018-05:56

Still irritates the bejesus out of me about that VC one

 By: Joepny : September 5th, 2018-18:09
What a mistake for the brand value.

Joe, we should chat about this next time as I really don't understand why it was such a mistake for VC.

 By: Jay (Eire) : September 5th, 2018-18:52
My bet would be Hodinkee, that watch and their total coverage of VC, was a net positive for VC. I'd guess there are a large number of watch guys in NYC alone that would never have stepped inside of the VC Boutique or purchased a VC without Hodinkee. I cou...

Cool, should see you there in Oct

 By: Joepny : September 6th, 2018-08:21
Did you see Sotheby’s HK watches catalogue? Always funky stuff coming out of Asia. And out of Sotheby’s London, there is a Soyuz Speedmaster!!! That is the only Speedmaster that I deeply care about. As for VC x Hodink, the watch itself seemed fine and I w...

Similar design cues with the Schumacher series..

 By: Echi : September 5th, 2018-17:07
Pic taken off the net ...

That's exactly where they got the inspiration

 By: reintitan : September 5th, 2018-17:24
This Speedy "Mk40" was the first watch the Hodink founder received from his grandfather and what got him interested in watches which eventually led to the website we all know and some love and others hate

I see. Haven’t seen the HDK article yet..

 By: Echi : September 5th, 2018-17:29
I actually like the Schumacher series which includes this piece. And prefer it over the HDK version. Thanks for the info.. now i have to read that article Best, Echi

Well, at least this one is closer to being "Limited" at 500.

 By: Jay (Eire) : September 5th, 2018-17:29
And I like the smaller case size too.

Some things i like and some things i dont

Not exclusive to Omega theses faux LE with no originality have to stop.

 By: emcquillan : September 5th, 2018-20:18
It will ruin the mechanical watch industry. I just can't wrap my mind around the short game most brands are playing, unless they've resigned themselves to cash out as quickly as possible because the clock is ticking on the industries viability. I hope thi...

I think it's hard these days to sell the same thing repeatedly. The LEs historically have offered a little variation which may appeal to the next new customer.

 By: Jay (Eire) : September 6th, 2018-04:08
And don't forget for the average watch buyer a LE is something that feels somewhat special. Only 2000 in the whole world, wow. Omega have been playing this game for years and years. I'm the proud owner of one not so limited LE from the early 2000's. And h...

No

 By: Gelato Monster : September 6th, 2018-00:13
IMHO peedmaster is such a perfect and strong design. It almost always looking good no matter how Omega modify it. This one is just a bit too colourful. Nonetheless the way they keep making limited edition is dillutive to the value.

yet another special edition ?! i think it is relevant with Hodinkee/Ben, the inflection point which made him an enthusiast

 By: mahesh : September 6th, 2018-00:32
i like the use of numerals, having said that all - it is not for me ;-) + sold out in less than 1 hour....i highly doubt that story - but unfortunately in today's world, what you see in 'internet' is considered 'truth' ! thats IMHO Best, mahesh.,

Somehow this feels just wrong. [nt]

Don’t like the watch, don’t like hodinkee anymore, and I don’t like what omega did

 By: Bruno.M1 : September 6th, 2018-01:01
Won’t be my most positive post I’m afraid The watch? Not for me, don’t like these colours and font. If you like this go try to find a 20 year old zenith el primero rainbow Hodinkee? Used to be the best blog.... until years ago when it became way too comme...

The second Speedy Tuesday looked nice

 By: Geo : September 6th, 2018-04:12
but this is a Luna Park to me, besides that I wonder if all these Speedy models do good to the original model. Who wants another Speedmaster next year. Personally I rather stick with a nice fat Breguet XX. GEO

HODINKEE

 By: Brego : September 6th, 2018-04:13
Hodinkee has it’s strengths and I enjoyed reading some of their stuff in the past. But I feel that the more they’ve become a seller/ marketer themselves, the less I trust their opinions and reviews. I appreciate my media being critical and that’s not poss...
