Some of us have been invited by Vacheron Constantin France for a dinner, and our Alex made us a very nice surprise, as he brought with him some nice watches from the current production, and from the Past.
From the Past, a superb collection of Chronomètre Royal watches, a Cioccolatone, and some other marvels.
From the Present, a Tour de L' Ile ( please see Fred's post about it ), and some other interesting watches, lie the Malte Chrono for Dubail, a Patrimony Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar, the 1921, of course, and....and, ...And THE 2 Chronomètre Royal, in RG, and in platinum.
I spent a lot of time on the Chronomètre Royal in platinum, as it is a rare watch to admire ( it is only available at a fews Boutiques ), so I will briefly introduce the 2 other watches I too in pictures.
- The Malte Chrono for Dubail.
The black dial is sublime, on this watch, and it is an excellent idea to have used it, IMO.
But why these touches of red, here and there?
I know that Red is THE Dubail Color, but on such an elegant watch, it ruins a bit the dial.
As for the case back, it is always a pleasure to see the Lemania movement beating inside...
- The Patrimony Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar skeleton:
Superb!
The work on the skeleton dial is awesome, well finished, and it doesn't really matter that the dial is not that legible, because with such a watch, you don't see the time, you look at it, you admire it!
The case back is spectacular, too
The rotor with the Maltese Cross, skeleted, of course, the movement...That is what I have in mind when I think VACHERON.
- Now, let's spend more time on the Chronomètre Royal...
You all know the RG version, which was first presented in a LE with the Red 12, and now, without the Red 12.
But you rarely saw the platinum version, as it was introduced in the VC Collection a few months ago.
It belongs to this category of understated watches, offering a cold look, due to the combination of the platinum case and the enamel dial, but it has a lot of charm!
The case is 39 mm big, and relatively thin, which contributes to its elegance.
The crown, thin, small, is another very nice detail, too, although it may not be very easy to wind the watch, but on an automatic, it is less important than on a manual winding watch.
I appreciated a lot the old shape of the hands, as to enhance that this watch shares, with the 1921 and the Toledo, the " Historique Family ".
I would have preferred a manual Chronometer movement, but this automatic caliber is ont uninteresting, as you can see on the following pictures
Even the lugs have an interesting old looking shape, as another hommage to the Past, indeed.
On the wrist, the Chronometre Royal confirms its superb and understated presence.
The density of the platinum, the size, the fact that it is perfectly centered on the wrist, bring a very nice physical and visual feeling:
Rose Gold or platinum, as both choices are available, now?
When the dial is white, the rose Gold case adds some warmth and contrast, for sure, while the platinum enhances the coldness of the enamel dial.
It is really a matter of choice, here, as both are beautiful, IMO.
While having my Langematik Anniversary in my pocket, I had a kind of revelation...
What if on the platinum Chronomètre Royal, the 12 was in red???
It would break a bit the coldness of the watch, and enhance its beauty, without sacrificing to its understatement, don't you think?
In conclusion, this Chronomètre Royal is, to me, one of these very interesting and appealing VC Watches, conform to the idea I have of a Vacheron watch ( much more conform than a Quai de L'Ile or a Dubail Malte Chrono ), understated, elegant, very classy.
A GO, for this watch!
I would warmly thank Alex and all the VC Team for this great and very friendly dinner, and this spectacular presentation of some rare birds.
Best to All.
