The latest addition to the Historiques line.

Historiques Aronde 1954

Bold character and sculptural lines

This Historiques Aronde 1954 immediately catches the eye with its original rectangular case. Radiating a blend of boldness and creativity, this newcomer to the Historiques collection is inspired by a model created during the effervescent post-war years. Its guilloché dial is a tribute to the Métiers d’Art – the artistic crafts inseparable from the field of haute horlogerie – that are consistently cultivated by Vacheron Constantin. Like all models in this collection, this Historiques Aronde 1954 watch with its sculptural lines is produced in limited numbers.

For over 250 years, creativity has been the watchword at Vacheron Constantin. The history of the Geneva-based watch manufacturer is punctuated by timepieces testifying to its ability to combine boldness and creativity, technical breakthroughs and deliberate aesthetic choices. The year 1954 produced further evidence of this perpetual creative élan.

Stemming from a determination to highlight the rich heritage of Vacheron Constantin, the mission of the Historiques collection is to revive models emblematic of the spirit and know-how of the brand through contemporary reinterpretations of its legendary models.

The Historiques Aronde 1954 watch perfectly reflects this approach. Featuring a rectangular case that is unique within the current range produced by the Manufacture, this newcomer is distinguished by a 1954 Vacheron Constantin model. Its pink gold 31.2 x 44. 55 mm case, embodying the powerful creative impetus of the post-war era, displays a complex construction graced with alternating polished and brushed surfaces. The name “Aronde”, which is an Old French word for a swallow’s wings, refers to the extremely original double-rounded curve unfurling almost like wings along the case flanks, and accentuated by a strongly cambered sapphire crystal. The subtle and elegant opaline silvered dial is adorned with a finely hand-guilloché motif epitomising the artistic crafts faithfully perpetuated by Vacheron Constantin; while the applied gold numerals, hour-markers and Maltese Cross symbol emphasise the highly structured nature of this model.

This distinctive model imbued with a vintage spirit beats to the rhythm of Calibre 1400 AS, a mechanical hand-wound movement developed and manufactured in-house by Vacheron Constantin. Its balance oscillates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), and the watch boasts a substantial 40-hour power reserve. This meticulously finished movement bearing the prestigious Hallmark of Geneva drives displays of the hours, the minute, as well as small seconds in a rectangular counter at 6 o’clock.

Through its rectangular case, daring design and sculptural lines, the Historiques Aronde 1954 highlights Vacheron Constantin’s acknowledged creativity and rounds out the range of this Historiques collection that delights connoisseurs by giving a new lease on life to some of the models that have made their mark on the history of the venerable Geneva-based House.

Breathtaking piece...

IMHO, there are only 2 manufacturers out there that can successfully pull off such a classic design with a modern sensibility: VC and Patek... and VC always seems to somehow trump PP with their stylistic cues. It is like VC is willing to push the envelope...

a breathtakingly bold piece!

I just have to get "around" the un-shaped movement, as wonderful as it is is, inside the rectangular case. But that case is so sexy. Best, respo

Interesting curves....

I find it looks feminine, yet there are sculptural lines about it. Need to see in the flesh and size to decide either side. Best, Horo

VC has done it right and in style. [nt]

"Lips" Returns

 By: Tick Talk : January 25th, 2011-18:45
One of my favorites of SIHH for sure! Of course, VC couldn't use the nickname "Lips" and Aronde sounds nice enough. For me, the Ultra Fine 1955 was the complete package, the 1968 really needs a display back, and the 1954 is sexy as hell but would be bette...

Man if I wanted a vintage-looking modern watch

That Aronde would simply be impossible to beat... quite a watch--not for me--but quite a watch!!!!
