Indeed, 6732 not a CR model
Aug 27, 2014,10:13 AM
The movement is missing its spacer ring, possibly because the dial doesn't properly fit the case. Speaking of that dial, I'm not sure if it was stolen from a CR or an actual fake production! Note the SWISS MADE at 6 o'clock. The case back s/n dates this part to 1968. FWIW, the seller had this to say; " I have no idea, I bought it as this condition and offer it for sell as is".
I always let the seller know of concerns before posting these alerts. Sometimes I don't know how to take their replies. Here is a recent conversation involving a large and well-known American dealer:
Me:
The piece is labeled Vacheron Geneve and is a 19th century copy. He: Yes thanks for spotting our oversight we did mention it was pre constantine but still it was listed improperly.
He again: B y the way , this is not a copy it is a watch made by Vacheron before he partnered with Constantine.
Me: Vacheron brothers pre-Constantin, did not sign their watches in that manner, are you suggesting that movement is pre-1819?
He: No of course not, Cesar and Charles both made watches, inexpensively during the 1870s, signed only Vacheron
certainly not good enough to be faked.Me: Although Cesar Constantin, Mme Veuve Cesar Constantin, then their son Charles Constantin were in charge of the Manufacture for the period mentioned, all watches were still properly signed Vacheron & Constantin (note: I also sent him pics of Charles and Cesar watch cuvettes, with full Vacheron & Constantin engraving).
He: Well now i am interested you learn something new every day in this amazing business after further research i will respond back.
Sounded very positive, however the seller continued to let the auction run until it ended, thankfully without bids.
