On the complication, I cannot agree more
Jan 18, 2015,04:50 AM
I recall wears ago talking with VC in Munich especially on that topic, and explaining why the older ultra thin minute repeater perpetual is a master piece because of the work on the case, bezel and caseback to have the visual effect of an ultra thin watch. amazing for such a complication, and it is not only coming from the caliber but also from the design.
Patek mastered that beautifully on the 5970 for example with a lot of work on the bezel, case and caseback, the watch looks absolutely normal and wearable.
Replace that with a straight case, bezel and caseback with all the thickness visible on the side and it will look like an awful brick.
I agree with you on that topic. The Patrionmy traditionnelle looks right on a three hands watch, but going to chronograph or a complex worldtime module, and it looks too big for medium/small wrists. Well that's my vision, some people are comfortable with the lugs going out of their wrist, that's also the market at the moment...
To have not too bad proportions, and keep the same design, they increase the diameter. Easy solution but imho not the right one. I have the same problem with Lange complications, but it's a bit different for Lange because it is part of their DNA.
I have looked for long time at the side vision of a watch case, it gives you a lot of information, more than just watching the face.
cheers
